Case study · Your College Senior

Turning long career videos into a weekly content system for students.

Your College Senior makes long, honest career videos for engineering students. We built the system that turns each one into LinkedIn posts, a newsletter and shorts, every week.

The brief

Your College Senior is a YouTube channel and mentorship platform run by G. Surendar Thina, a college senior to thousands of students he has never met. The videos are long, careful and genuinely useful: how to survive first semester, what to do in final year, how to think about placements. The goal was never ad revenue. In Boobesh's words, the aim is "a student movement, where students help students grow."

What made it hard

  • Most students will not sit through a 40-minute video, however good it is. The best advice was sitting at minute 23.
  • The audience lives in different places: YouTube for depth, LinkedIn for the students already thinking about careers, email for the ones who want it weekly.
  • One person cannot record, edit and also write five versions of every idea. Without a system, repurposing happens when someone has time, which means it rarely happens.

What we did

  1. 1

    Mapped one flow

Long YouTube video first. Then shorts and reels, then LinkedIn posts, then a newsletter. Every piece starts from the same recording, so the voice stays the same.

  2. 2

Read every video like an editor

Each video is transcribed and marked for moments that stand on their own: a question students always ask, a mistake to avoid, a clear before and after.

  3. 3

    Owned the calendar

One content calendar for every platform, so nothing depends on memory. Gari Tech runs the weekly sync and keeps the queue full.

  4. 4

    Wrote it down

Every repeated task became a checklist or an SOP, so the system keeps running in a busy week, and can be handed to someone new.

The system

  1. Long YouTube video
  2. Transcript and moments
  3. Shorts and reels
  4. LinkedIn posts
  5. Newsletter

What happened

  • A recent video on why systems beat motivation became two LinkedIn posts and a newsletter in the same week, with the newsletter scheduled for 8 AM the next morning.
  • Content now goes out on a weekly rhythm, planned in one calendar, instead of whenever there is time.
  • The founder records. Everything after the recording is handled.

What we learned

The video was never the problem. Distribution was. One good recording, cut with care and posted on a schedule, does more than three rushed videos. We are now collecting before-and-after numbers, and will share them here once YCS is happy for us to.
